Equipment needed: -6' Leather Lead -Training Collar STEP 1:   Start with your dog in a sit position.    STEP 2:   Your right hand will be holding the leash as you (in a non hurried way) let the loose leash fall to the ground, in a manner that it can be stepped upon easily.  STEP 3:   If your dog is not in a sit at this point, say sit and then reinforce that through molding or collar correction.   Then say "down" and take up all the slack in your leash from under your foot. STEP 4:   Every time your dog allows more slack in the leash, take up that slack. STEP 5:   Patiently wait your dog out until they decide to lay down. STEP 6:   Say "good boy" or "good girl" or "good [dog's name]" (remember this does not mean release), and then you can release them from the command.   Remember we have not started down stay, so don't make the dog stay there for any amount of real time yet.  We are just t...

  Equipment Needed:  6’ Leash, Training Collar, and Food Reward.  A slip leash can be used instead of 6’ leash and training collar.     Explanation and Goal of Exercise:  This is just the beginning of the spin trick but also just following the hand.  Following the hand can be very useful when you need a position like heel and auto sit.     There are more steps later on to have the puppy or dog doing this on their own for the verbal only or signal only command.       STEP 1:  Hold handle of leash in one hand.   STEP 2:  Put treat in the other hand.   STEP 3:  Make sure you have the dog or puppy fairly close to you on the leash.   STEP 4:  Place the treat close to or right on the dog’s or puppy's nose if needed in a closed hand.   STEP 5: Then lure with your hand so the dog’s or puppy's head turns to start.   Don't expect more than a head turn at first.  If ...

  Equipment Needed: 6’ leash, training collar, food rewards ( a slip leash can replace both the 6’ leash a nd training collar if you prefer).   Explanation and Goal of Exercise:   There are times when you want to get your dog’s or puppy’s attention and focus.   This exercise is the start of your dog looking at you when the ir name is called.  This is useful for heeling, recall, and let’s go.   STEP 1 :    Be sure you are prepared with kibble in your hand BEFORE giving a command.   STEP 2 :  Say your dog’s or puppy's name.   STEP 3 A:   Immediately upon your dog or puppy looking into your face (and not glancing immediately away), say your release word "yes" and deliver the food reward as you release them.   STEP 3 B:    If they do not look to you, first try calling their name again after a full 10 seconds has passed so you aren't just rapidly firing off their name.   If they are just ...

  Explanation and goal of command:  Let’s go simply means move towards you.   The goal is to have your dog move towards you when you say the command.   This can be used for many things.    You want your dog to move towards you and away from something else.  For instance, if your dog was annoying another dog, this is a good way to get them to instead move towards you.   If your dog goes to the end of the leash, this is also a good command to train your dog to leave the leash loose.   Equipment needed: Long Line or 6’ Leash , Training Collar, Food Reward (if that is what we are working with)     STEP 1: You will be holding the end of the long leash for this one.   STEP 2:    In the opposite hand, you will want to be holding the food reward.   The food should be preloaded in your hand before giving the command.   STEP 3:    Let your puppy or dog get distracted.  If they go to the...
